As a business we aim to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability, to balance purpose and profit. To do this we have created this sustainable procurement policy statement, which outlines our approach to purchasing products and services in line with our goals.
As a small business, we are heavily dependent on the market conditions and environment we operate in. The UAE imports 80-90% of the food it consumes1 and this is both a blessing and a curse. We can get almost any ingredient that is required in a recipe from the multitude of importers that supply us, but this comes at the cost of a long and carbon-reliant supply chain that increases food waste vs. shorter, local ones.
When possible, we source from family-owned, female-owned or another underrepresented population owned supplier. This way we support a diverse group of suppliers.
We prefer to source products and services from suppliers who have initiatives that reduce their impact on the environment and are focused on creating a positive social impact.
With the UAE investing heavily in its food security, this will become easier as time goes by, and we will ensure that we stay up to date with the latest developments in product, supplier, and supply chain innovations within the region.
