Instructions

Marinate

1 Marinate

  • In a bowl, mix together the steak strips, baking soda, corn starch, a good pinch of salt and pepper, and a drizzle of vegetable oil.
  • Set aside to quickly marinate.
Tip! Baking soda is the secret to tender beef as it helps break down tough protein fibres, while allowing the flavours to marinate. A little goes a long way.
Make sauce

2 Make sauce

  • In another small bowl, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, ginger garlic paste, oyster sauce, sesame seeds, measured water, and half the spring onions, reserving the rest for the rice.
Fry

3 Fry

  • Heat a large pan over high heat with a small drizzle of oil.
  • Fry the marinated steak strips for 3-4 min on high heat until browned and caramelised.
  • Transfer the steak strips to a plate.
  • Add a small drizzle of oil.
  • Fry the broccoli and peppers for 2-3 min until charred and softened.
Tip! To speed things up, add a small splash of water and cover the vegetables to help steam cook.
Fry rice

4 Fry rice

  • Meanwhile, Heat another large frying pot or pan over a medium-high heat.
  • Using your hands squeeze the rice in the packet, to separate the rice grains.
  • Add a drizzle of oil to the pan.
  • Fry the spring onions with a pinch of salt and pepper for 1 min.
  • Add the rice and stir-fry for 2-3 min until warmed through.
Add sauce

5 Add sauce

  • Add the steak strips back to the pan, and pour over the sauce.
  • Cook for 2-3 min until the sauce thickens to your liking.
Serve

6 Serve

  • Serve the Chinese Steak Strips and Broccoli in Oyster Sauce over the Rice.
