Instructions

Prep

1 Prep

  • Preheat oven to 180°C/160°C fan.
  • Roughly cut the hazelnuts in half (optional).
Combine

2 Combine

  • Add the oats, chia seeds, cocoa powder, almonds, hazelnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and cinnamon to a large bowl.
  • Toss together to mix.
Tip! Feel free to add or remove any ingredients according to your taste preference.
Finish

3 Finish

  • Drizzle the granola with the maple syrup (reserve 1-2 Tbsp for step 4).
  • Add a 1-2 Tbsp olive oil and a pinch of salt.
  • Mix well.
  • Tip onto a lined baking tray in an even layer.
Tip! Olive oil is high in unsaturated fats and will add a very subtle and deliciously savoury flavour to the granola. Alternatively, use a neutral oil according to your preference.
Bake

4 Bake

  • Bake the granola in the oven for 10-12 minutes, tossing half way through, until fragrant and the oats and nuts are toasted.
  • Once baked, drizzle the baked granola with the reserved maple syrup.
  • Mix well.
Tip! Mixing the granola half way ensures it bakes evenly.
Serve

5 Serve

  • Allow the granola to cool before adding the Belgian dark chocolate chips.
  • Serve the Homemade Choc Nut Granola with your favourite yogurt, a drizzle of honey and fresh fruit, according to your preference.
Storage

6 Storage

  • Once your granola has fully cooled, store in an airtight container or ziplock bag at room temperature for up to one week.
