Instructions

Toast pecans

1 Toast pecans

  • In a dry pan over mediium heat, toast the pecans for 1-2 min.
  • Roughly chop into smaller pieces.
  • Wipe the pan clean and set it aside.
Prep apples

2 Prep apples

  • Peel the apples and slice in quarters, removing the core and seeds.
  • Chop into smaller bite-sized pieces.
Cook apples

3 Cook apples

  • Heat the reserved pan over medium high heat.
  • Add the butter, apples, cinnamon, and maple syrup.
  • Cook for 5-7 min until the apples are softened.
  • In a small bowl, mix 1 tsp of corn starch with 100ml measured water to create a slurry.
  • When apples are softened, stir in the corn starch slurry and cook for 1-2 min until thickened and syrupy.
  • Set aside and keep warm.
Cook porridge

4 Cook porridge

  • Meanwhile, in another small pot, combine the oats, milk, vanilla essence, 450ml measured water, and raisins (see tip).
  • Bring to a boil, then gently simmer and cook the oatmeal porridge for 5-7 min until thickened to your liking.
Tip! The raisins will naturally sweeten the oatmeal. If you're not a fan, or if cooking for kids, leave them out. You can either stir in a small pinch of sugar or honey instead.
Serve

5 Serve
