Instructions
1 Prep
Preheat the oven to 200°C (no fan).
Line a baking tray with a large sheet of parchment or baking paper.
Warm the Nutella in the microwave for 30 sec to slightly loosen.
Unroll the puffpastry, keeping the baking paper underneath.
Lightly flour your rolling pin, and gently roll out the puffpastry on all sides (don't make it too thin).
Spread the Nutella on one puffpastry sheet, leaving a clean 3cm border.
2 Outline shape
Lay the second puffpastry on top of the one with Nutella.
Using the back of a knife, gently mark two diagonal lines, starting from the short edge (Point A) to the opposite corners (Point B) to create a triangular outline.
Starting at the base of the triangle, mark horizontal lines spaced about 2cm apart to create the branches, working your way toward the tip.
3 Cut
Using a sharp knife, cut the puffpastry along the lines to form the triangle. Set the excess aside.
Cut slits on both sides of the tree to form the branches.
Gently twist each branch away from you, giving 2 twists per branch. Leave the shorter ones as is.
Cut a square from the excess dough to form a tree trunk, and press it into the base.
Make more twisty puffs from the extra dough, or use cookie cutters to cut out different shapes.
Tip!Don't worry if this gets a little messy! You'll finish with a dusting of icing sugar at the end.
4 Brush
Gently transfer the whole sheet (as is) to your baking tray.
Whisk the egg in a small bowl.
Lightly brush all over the tree and shapes.
Tip!Do not attempt to remove the tree from the original baking paper. Simply move it on top of the new sheet.
5 Bake
Bake the puffpastry tree at the bottom rack of the oven for 25-30 min until puffed and golden in colour.
Check that the bottom of the puffpastry tree is cooked. If it needs more time and browning too quickly, loosely cover from the top with foil or baking paper.
Tip!If crowded, use a second tray to bake any extra puff pastry, making sure you bake it at a shorter time frame so they don't burn.
6 Serve
Remove the puffpastry and set aside to cool for 5 min.
Dust some icingsugar and cinnamon (optional) on top for a snowy finish.
Serve the Festive Tear'n'Share All-Butter Puff PastryNutella Tree with your friends and family.
Happy holidays!
