Instructions
1 Cut shape
Preheat the oven to 190°C (no fan), and line a tray with baking paper.
Unroll the puffpastry, keeping its baking paper underneath.
Lightly flour your rolling pin, and gently roll out the puffpastry on all sides (don't make it too thin).
Place a 10cm plate at the left edge of the pastry, and using a sharp knife, cut a circle shape.
Remove the plate, and cut a rounded "m" shape at the top to form the heart-shaped curves.
Cut 9 thin vertical strips from the excess dough to use for making a border.
2 Form border
To make the borders, gather 3 vertical strips and pinch at the top. Form them either into braids or twists, and repeat until you have made 3 total.
Using a fork, gently prick holes along the edges of the heart-shaped pastry.
Transfer the whole sheet (as is) to your baking tray.
Whisk the egg in a small bowl, and lightly brush all over.
Tip!Do not attempt to remove the puff pastry from the original baking paper. Simply move it on top of the new sheet.
3 Brush egg wash
Gently press the braids or twists along the edges to form a border.
Lightly brush the braids or twists with the remaining egg wash, discarding the rest.
Tip!No pastry brush? You can use your fingers to lightly coat the puff pastry with the egg wash.
4 Bake pastry
Bake the puffpastry at the bottom rack of the oven for 25-28 min until puffed and golden in colour.
Check that the bottom of the puffpastry is cooked. If it needs more time and browning too quickly, loosely cover the top with foil or baking paper.
Remove and set aside to cool for 5 min.
5 Trim strawberries
Meanwhile, pick and remove the green leaves of most of the strawberries, reserving some whole or halved to dip into the Nutella.
Using a sharp knife, slice the trimmed strawberries lengthwise into 4 segments.
At the top center of each slice, cut a small V-shape, so the strawberries resemble hearts.
Warm the Nutella in the microwave for 45 sec to loosen and make it easy to spread.
6 Fill and decorate
Using a spoon, gently press the center of the puffpastry down (it will be flaky).
Spread most of the Nutella in the center and smooth towards the sides of the puffpastry.
Layer the heart-shaped strawberries on top of the Nutella.
Finish with dusting some icingsugar all over.
Dip the rest of the strawberries in the remaining Nutella.
